Review: Blazing Summer by Denise Grover Swank

Blazing Summer (Darling Investigations Book 2) by [Swank, Denise Grover]

★★★

Summer Butler: 25% creative producer, 25% private investigator, 50% troublemaker. The second season of her famous series “Darling Investigations” is about to start, and Summer is still looking for the case that will make her season. Or break her. Because Sweet Briar is being attacked by an arsonist and all the clues are leading to Dixie, her cousin.

So, I have two very different opinions about this book! Let’s start with the nice one which is regarding the investigation. I think that the entire case and its investigation was really well created and well written. There were a lot of little things that you would never think of that change the entire course of your line of thought and, consequently, your suspect. Better yet, you will never guess who actually did it! I mean, I didn’t!

The part that I was not so keen on was the romance part! After ten years, Summer and Luke are having their second chance but it was not a fulfilling love story. There’s a little bit of jealousy and some next-to-none lust and what is more important is that I couldn’t really feel their passion. Basically, I would have preferred their romantic relationship to be more developed, for sure.

All in all, it still is a pretty good book! If you’re really into the suspense and the investigation thing, you will love this and you won’t even notice the lack of love. But, if you’re like me, and you love a sparks-flying-everywhere kind of love, you might be left high and dry.
