Interview with Ainslie Paton

QA Ainslie Paton

Describe yourself in three words. Really very tired.
What makes you the happiest? Books, cats, sunshine, the beach.
What was your first job? Dance teacher.
What made you start writing? My grandfather was a great oral storyteller. I think the storytelling started with him but I fell in love with books and it seemed like it should be possible to make my own.
If your life was a book, what would the title be? She was really very tired.
What is your favorite word? That would be like choosing your favorite child!
Any good book you read recently? Cringe! I’ve been so busy with my day job and my night being a writer, I’ve had no time to read at all lately – it’s disgraceful.
Describe the perfect hero in three words. Cooks, cleans, anticipates.
How did the idea for Fool Me Forever spark? I was angry with the state of the world after the Brexit scandals in the UK and the election of Trump in the US. The Confidence Game series is my revenge.
Would you let Halsey Sherwood (from Fool Me Forever) manage your accounts? Absolutely, he’d do a better job than me and maybe find me some spare cash somewhere – legal, all legal.
If you were in charge of casting the movie of Fool Me Forever, who would you cast as Halsey and Lenore? He’d be a young Paul Newman and she’d be – I have to get back to you on that.
How many books have you read? An incalculable number – see I need a Halsey in my real life. Add the number of books on my TBR and I might have an addiction problem.
Are you a morning or a night person? Night all the way.
Coffee or tea? Coffee – but I drink tea as well.
If you were a cake, what flavor would you be? Something lemon and lime. 🍋🍰
What are you working on next? Book 3 in The Confidence Game. That’s why I’m very tired. It’s called The Mysterious Stranger and it’s Zeke and Rory’s book.
What’s next on your reading list? Yeah! I’ve now got a kind of problem where I don’t know where to start
Any advice for all the authors out there that are trying to make it into the business? You will no doubt face periods of time where you are very tired and you wonder why you thought this was a good idea, but if you enjoy putting stories on the page the reward is built in.

A big thank you to Ainslie Paton for doing this interview.
I hope you all liked it!
